Following the Pandemic Pattern

• The household appliances market, like many others, experienced a substantial increase in sales from 2020 to 2021, or 18.3% to $75.03 billion, and even more compared to 2019, or a 30.2% increase, according to the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA).
• With persistent supply chain issues and increasing inflation, appliance sales have moderated just as substantially. The Q2 2022 SAAR (seasonally adjusted annual rate) of $78.01 billion increased 2.5% YOY but only 1.1% from the Q1 2022 SAAR of $77.18 billion.
• Although approximately 30% of household appliances are bought online, “household appliance stores” (NAICS 443141) also follow this pattern. Total 2021 sales increased 16.7% YOY but sales during the first nine months of 2022 decreased -2.7% YOY.
