Sporting Equipment Sales in a Rugged Environment

• Sales at retail sporting goods stores are flat but still better than many other retail verticals. Q1 2023 sales increased 3.8% YOY but then Q2 2023 sales decreased 0.01%, resulting in a 0.06% increase in sales for the first half of 2023.
• The US Bureau of Economic Analysis “personal consumption expenditures” for “sporting equipment, supplies, guns and ammunition” showed better sales numbers, with Q1 2023 expenditures increasing 2.4% YOY and Q2 2023 expenditures increasing 3.1% YOY.
• Statista reports good news for the US sports equipment market, forecasting a 19.5% increase from 2023 ($24.30 billion) to 2027 ($29.04 billion). Fishing equipment is tied for first with racquet sports equipment at a 20.9% increase during the period.
