A Season of New Records

• After a late start to the 2021–22 snowsports season because of mild weather, the season accelerated, and into late June, resulting in a record year for total skier visits of 60,695, the most in the National Ski Areas Association’s (NSAA) data since the late 1970s.
• Unsurprisingly, the Rocky Mountain region accounted for 41.6% of those total visits, or 25,250. The Northeast region was second with 12,666 visits (20.9%) and the Pacific West was third with 11,557 visits (19.0%).
• The snowsports market was able to set these records, although fewer ski areas were operating in the US as of October 2021. That total of 462 was the least of any year since the 1991–92 season, indicating the continuing trend of consolidation.
