A Final Push to Pre-Pandemic Levels

• The latest forecast from the U.S. Travel Association shows total 2022 domestic person-trips increased 11.4% from 2021, which is 97% of 2019 volume; however, international visitors to the US were only 63% of 2019 volume, which results in a loss of $28 billion in spending.
• The association predicts domestic person-trips will moderate to a 3.2% YOY increase during 2023 or 100% of 2019 volume. 2024 trips will increase 4.5% YOY or 105% of 2019 volume. By 2026, domestic person-trips will represent 109% of 2019 volume.
• It will be 2024 before total US travel spending will exceed 2019’s volume at 103%. Leisure domestic travel will be responsible for most of that increase at 105% of 2019 volume while international travel won’t exceed 2019’s volume until 2026 at 103%.
